Here are some questions frequently asked by inquisitive learning practitioners and our answers to them:

What is an end-2-end e-learning solution? How is it different from other learning solutions?

An end-2-end learning solution goes the distance as far as learning solutions go – from understanding the problem to designing and delivering the learning solution and finally, measuring the outcomes using non-intrusive techniques.
Most learning solutions are designed and delivered to solve problems but one is often left unclear as to whether the solution indeed solved the problem. As a result, metrics are created that attempt to measure the results from an organizational perspective.
Nuveda’s learning solutions are designed with the learner in mind. Learner-centric metrics are collected to aggregate to an organizational metric.

What are the benefits of e-learning?

E-learning allows a learner to learn something 24x7, anywhere and offers the learner an opportunity to go back and re-learn, unlike a classroom setting.
As a result, it affords considerable reach across the globe, saving travel costs, improving productivity of the learners and providing a consistency of learning that can be absent in a classroom setting.

What kinds of e-learning are available?

There are various kinds of e-learning, including CD-Based Training, Web Training (Training over the Web), Virtual Classrooms (where participants can be spread across multiple locations but share a single online classroom), self-paced e-learning modules that can be delivered over the web or through CD, etc.

Is it true that e-learning is less effective then class room learning?

One can’t be sure always. In some studies, the reverse has been shown to be the case. In an e-learning delivery, especially with self-paced modules, one can ensure consistency, repeatability and reproducibility – something that cannot be said for certain in a classroom situation.
Having said this, e-learning cannot solve all problems. In some cases, a blended solution wherein an instructor led program coupled with an online module have been found to be very effective and economical.

Is there any role of facilitator in an e-learning module? How does the facilitator help?

Absolutely. Just as in a classroom setting and when properly designed and delivered, a facilitator can facilitate the discovery in learning quite nicely. The opportunities for discovery grow with the use of online games.

How is the progress of a trainee maintained and measured?

Nuveda’s learning solutions are designed with the learner in mind and include assessments at various stages in the learning cycle. Learner-centric metrics are then collected to aggregate to an organizational metric.
Furthermore, with e-learning 2.0, a continuous learning framework is made possible, so the learning trajectory of a trainee can be continuously tracked and monitored.

Why is e-learning not popular in India? This notion is rapidly becoming ancient with the growth of broadband services in India. Most Indian corporates especially in the IT/ITeS segments as well as other segments such as BFSI, Hospitality, Manufacturing, FMCG and Retail are using e-learning.
However, most e-learning solutions were developed for the western markets and lack a cultural fit. As a result, there is the open question of how relevant these solutions are for the Indian market.
Initial studies indicate that such cookie cutter solutions will not work for the workforce that is rapidly evolving technologically in India.

E-learning only relevant to some kinds of learning.

There are conceivably certain kinds of topics that are completely experiential which may defy e-learning techniques. But when complex e-learning applications such as flight simulators are available, the realm of possibilities increases dramatically.
Even in these special cases, some amount of preparatory work can be done using e-learning.
